CÀRNIQUES CELRÀ S.A. WILL START EXPORTING TO CHINA AND WILL BUILD FOUR WAREHOUSES WITH CAPACITY TO STORE UP TO 18,000 TONS OF FROZEN PORK
Càrniques Celrà Projects
The Càrniques Celrà Projects showcase the company’s commitment to growth, innovation, and international expansion. Over the next year, Càrniques Celrà S.L. will invest €18 million to double its production area, expand cold storage capacity, and create 50 new jobs.
As a result, these projects strengthen the company’s global export capacity and ensure all products meet the highest quality and food safety standards.
Facility Expansion and Infrastructure
A major focus of the Càrniques Celrà Projects is the expansion of the Girona plant. Currently, the facility occupies 13,217 square meters and processes 5,000 animals per day. Within a year, the area will double as the new construction integrates with existing facilities.
The €18 million investment includes:
Four new cold storage warehouses, capable of holding 12,000 pallets or 18,000 tons of frozen products
A -40 ºC freezing tunnel dedicated to boxed pork, with a daily capacity of 60 tons
A new packaging room, which will employ the 50 new staff members
These upgrades will enhance efficiency, hygiene, and traceability systems. In addition, the expanded facilities will allow Càrniques Celrà S.L. to meet growing international demand.
Export Growth and Market Impact
The Càrniques Celrà Projects also focus on increasing exports to Asia. Recently, Girona pork obtained approval to export to Mexico and China, significantly boosting international sales. Currently, Càrniques Celrà S.L. ships up to 15 containers per day by sea.
The culinary culture in these markets highly values smaller pork by-products, such as bones, ears, feet, and hands, which are sold widely in local marketplaces.
By expanding its infrastructure and workforce, Càrniques Celrà S.L. ensures it can meet growing demand while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
Investment in Jobs and Technology
The expansion also includes investment in human resources and technology. The 50 new employees will work in the packaging area, while new systems improve production efficiency and traceability.
In addition, the cold storage and freezing tunnels support larger volumes of frozen products, enabling the company to handle increased international orders.
Consequently, these projects not only strengthen production but also reinforce Càrniques Celrà S.L.’s position as a leading meat processing company in Girona.
